To all of those I met at the handful of conferences I attended before Covid-19 sent everything to digital, and all of those I met over email or Zoom since, it was a pleasure to meet you. I hope we get the chance to meet again when all of this is over, and you can reach me at any of my contact details listed at the bottom if you want to catch up in the meantime.

I’m still not 100% sure what I’ll be doing next, but I suspect it will still be in the gambling industry. This has been my life for more than a decade, and it’s an industry I continue to love and appreciate. No matter if I continue to write about it or throw myself back into an operations setting, it will always be apart of who I am. The restored statue now anchors a 60th-anniversary memorabilia exhibit in the Appian Way shopping arcade at the Las Vegas resort, as first reported by Vital Vegas.

Cleopatra is the latest and most prominent addition to the exhibit, which marks the opening of Caesars Palace on Aug. 5, 1966.

The artifacts also include a 1966 cocktail waitress uniform, a Cleopatra costume and headdresses from opening events, a Tom Jones show program from 1971, Caesars Palace Grand Prix posters, and an old high-stakes slot machine.

Aqueduct staged its final races June 28, ending a 132-year history at the Queens track. It remained open for simulcast wagering until September 7 before closing permanently.

The new Belmont is significantly different than the sprawling venue it replaced. The former 1.25 million-square-foot grandstand, which had become vastly oversized for the contemporary racing crowd, was demolished to make way for a much smaller, modern facility with a focus on hospitality and premium seating.

Friday’s opening was deliberately capped at 6,000 spectators while construction continues. Only the first two levels of the new five-story grandstand are currently open, with the remaining sections scheduled for completion ahead of next year’s meet.
